The Green River Lake area is wonderfully diverse in its opportunities. The lake itself is a dazzling piece of nature, nestled in one of the oldest sections of Kentucky.

Green River Lake's varied angling opportunities include many species you would expect, plus some that seem exotic, such as muskie and walleye. Ski boats, pontoons, large houseboats and other watercraft can be rented for all sorts of water sports.  Or, you can launch your boat at several sites around the lake.

Sand beaches, campgrounds with paved full hookups, primitive camping and trails devoted to horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking surround the lake. If camping is not for you, cabins and condominiums are available around the lake.

Especially Adair, Green and Taylor Counties boast of their historic structures. They include the Oldest Courthouse west of the Alleghenies (1803), Greensburg, Green County;  Atkinson Griffin House (1840 log home) and a rare German stone house, the Jacob Hiestand House, Campbellsville, Taylor County; and Pleasant View Baptist Church (oldest log church in Kentucky), Columbia, Adair County.  Each of the counties has many other historic sites to visit, as well as an abundance of family records for research.

Casey County lays claim to the world's largest apple pie, a feature of their well-established Apple Festival. Throughout the year, visitors are welcome at the several Amish and Mennonite communities in the area as well as at the Galilean Children's Home.

Antiques, craft shops and specialty stores provide great shopping experiences within this four county lake region.  Purchases might include antique reproduction cherry furniture, quilts, home-baked goods, country ham, antiques, and crafts.

Whether you are hunting for muskie, bargains on antiques, rich pioneer and Civil War History, lavish leisure or a great tan, the Green River Lake area offers a marvelous vacation.
