Especially Adair, Green and Taylor Counties boast of their historic structures.
They include the Oldest Courthouse west of the Alleghenies (1803), Greensburg,
Green County; Atkinson Griffin House (1840 log home) and a rare German
stone house, the Jacob Hiestand House, Campbellsville, Taylor County; and
Pleasant View Baptist Church (oldest log church in Kentucky), Columbia, Adair
County.
Each of the counties has many other historic sites to visit, as well as an
abundance of family records for research.
Casey County lays claim to the world's largest apple pie, a feature of their
well-established Apple Festival. Throughout the year, visitors are welcome at
the several Amish and Mennonite communities in the area as well as at the
Galilean Children's Home.
Antiques, craft shops and specialty stores provide great shopping experiences
within this four county lake region. Purchases might include antique
reproduction cherry furniture, quilts, home-baked goods, country ham, antiques,
and crafts.
Whether you are hunting for muskie, bargains on antiques, rich pioneer and Civil
War History, lavish leisure or a great tan, the Green River Lake area offers a
marvelous vacation.
